My Take
The Cages We Built is a collection of poetry written in three parts. I found myself liking part one, then lost my way in part two and struggled with it, then it got better in part three. The book is Fiction but some sections read autobiographical, almost like a rant, and I did have trouble getting into that.

“Love is giving crazy a chance
And dancing with madness
Hand in hand.”

Kendi Karimi is a good writer and it shows in the pages. One of my favourite things was the prose. There is a beautiful prose in each section as each part begins and it was my favourite thing, I found myself rereading them.

The Cages We Built was an okay read for me, and I would actually read another book from Kendi Karimi, perhaps a novel. I feel like poetry lovers would appreciate it more.
