Meet Avi, one of the friendliest people I have had the pleasure of interacting with on here. Enjoy the chat. ☺
1. Tell me a little bit about yourself.
My name is Aviaja, though I mostly go by Avi, I am 27 years old and I come from Greenland. I’ve been reading my whole life, but it wasn’t until I discovered bookstagram that my love for reading broadened and intensified.
2. What are you currently reading?
I am currently reading The Changeling’s Journey by my friend Christine Moor, it’s her debut novel and it is so good! It’s a fantasy book inspired by scottish folklore, it has an amazing main character that is so relatable and the plot is really interesting.
I am also reading Sandcastle Empire by Kayla Olson, which I am also enjoying very much.
3. What is your favorite genre and why?
Fantasy is my favorite genre, no doubt about that. There is always something magical about reading new and unknown worlds, that has kings and queens, knights and warriors, another way of life compared to ours, and the characters have to find a way to conquer their fears and enemies. It’s often inspiring, so I think that’s why I love fantasy so much. Urban fantasy or high fantasy. I love both equally.
4. What do you think about the reading culture in your country?
Sometimes it feels like it’s non-existing, I mostly hear from people that they wish they read books, but they don’t even really seem to make an effort to read at all.
There has been more greenlandic fiction published though, but unfortunately it’s not something that’s been interesting to me, because it’s been those kind of dark and depressing-ish fiction novels. It’s been a life-long dream of mine to open my own bookstore, so maybe I could change the reading culture in my town that way, plus I really want to write my own urban fantasy novel that is inspired by our greenlandic myths and legends. Maybe that could also help people to get more creative in their story tellings and reading habits.
5. Name 3 reading habits that you have.
– I mark every quote that I like with a small post it (if I have one near me when I read)
– I almost always want to either drink a cup of coffee or eat a snack while I’m reading. It’s so cosy.
– I am almost always reading two books at the same time – an audiobook and a physical copy.
6. What is one book you recommend to people?
Okay, that’s a really tough question. I always have lots of recommendations but what do I recommend the most? … I think it’s Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton.
It’s an ABSOLUTE favorite of mine and I can’t recommend it enough. It’s fast paced, exciting and just filled to the brim with theories about evolution and how the dinosaurs lived and behaved. Of course, since it’s Jurassic Park, it can get gory in a split second, so I wouldn’t recommend it to those that only want YA books on their TBR pile. But I am sure that if you LOVED the movie, then you’ll love the book even more!
